What to eat on the road?

So as you can see in my below post, I'm planning on backpacking through Europe.

I'm going to be purchasing food from grocery stores and trying to make quick/cheap meals in the hostel kitchens.  I'll probably eat a lot of sandwiches as well. I'll go out to eat, but not for every meal.

Which food do you guys recommend that is easy to make or eat on the go?

  1. Are you doing it alone? It has always been my dream to do it... I lived in Italy for 5 years and every time I took the train there was one of these guys with huge backpacks just going around Europe :) Have fun man and enjoy...
As for food I would recommend you ate sandwiches which are always cheap and easy to make and easy on the go... granola bars are always important too when you make one of these, and canned food, which you would just have to heat probably :) Man, good luck on your trip, I really wish you the best...

    Totally following!

  3. Sandwiches. Pasta is good too. Light and doesnt take up much space. Those continental packets are good. But dont bother stocking up too much. They do have supermarkets in Europe as well.

  4. Cool! I backpacked SE Asia and loved it. Can't offer much advice on purchasing, since Asia is so cheap I could eat out for all my meals on $10/day!

  5. Well too bad you aren't coming to Portugal! If you were you have a guide right here. Anyway european food is very healthy, so I recommend you to eat on typical restaurants.

  10. Im backpacking Australia for 6 months next year. Best bet is definitely to purchase food and cook yourself. Things like spaghetti and some good pan fried vegetables can be a cheap and delicious meal.

  20. Don't spend any money at all on food. Just use your instinct on random bushels of berries or nuts. set traps for small mammals or reptiles if you're feeling adventurous.

  23. My suggestion would be wraps, they're easy to carry around and don't fill you with tons of carbs. But if you're backpacking you might want some carbs. Have fun!
