Planning a Europe Backpacking Trip

I am planning a big Europe trip for next summer (summer of 2012).

I'm definitely excited about it...

Locations I'm planning on going:

- London, England
- Liverpool, England
- Dublin, Ireland
- Amsterdam, Netherlands
- Paris, France
- Saint Malo, France
- Nice, France
- Eze, France / Monte Carlo, Monaco
- Rome, Italy
- Venice, Italy
- Florence, Italy
- Zurich, Switzerland

Yes, I know a lot of them are tourist cities, but I have never been to Europe before so I want to see them.

Anyways, I'll be staying in hostels and eating cheap most of the time.

So have you guys been backpacking? Any tips? Any other places I should DEFINITELY see?

  1. If you have the cash, I think you should try Prague. I hear it is a beautiful place.

  4. You gotta spend AT least 1 week in France for theses cities :) You may go to Cannes as well, its not far away from Nice, and its nice (hehe.) too !
Avoid Marseilles though, you don't want to go there. Also while you're in Paris visit the greatest monument & stuff : Le Louvre, la Tour Eiffel, les Champs-Elysées, la cathédrale de Notre-Dame... Enjoy your trip anyway ! Following also ;)

  5. I'm actually jealous. I've always wanted to travel Europe and I will do that as soon as I'll be able to afford it. Meanwhile, I hope you'll have a great time!

  6. Use wikitravel, it's a great free resource. Check out lonelyplanet too, either in a library or online, but I wouldn't recommend buying the guidebooks - they spell "target" to any potential thief/scammer/pushy salesman.

  7. I am also planning a trip! Was thinking of doing a Contiki Tour. A lot of my friends have used Contiki, and all of them have positive things to say. It looks like good fun! Can't wait.
Probably going to do a Europe tour, at the end of the year.

    Good luck with your travels!

  12. I was around Italy A LOT, lived there for 5 years, and I would recommend these places:
*Parma, beautiful small city, people's nice and you can go around it in a full day... its like 2 hours away by train from Milan, and it is beautiful... Parmesan cheese comes from there, and so does Prosciutto di Parma :) Napoleon's wife lived there, her palace's gardens are usually always open...
*If you like lakes and water, Lago di Garda is beautiful... I might be wrong, but I think George Clooney lives there (I might be mistaken with another lake)... a lot of VIPs live there because its beautiful... the most beautiful zone is called Sirmeone, they have great Ice Creams and what is believed to be old Catullus' house ruins are there... it has a very greeky style and since you're not going to Greek you might as well want to check it out.
I would keep going and going because I love Italy :)

Another place that I noticed you haven't been in is Vienna... from Milan (but I guess also from other places) there's a very cheap and very good airline (flight with them only twice and the service was excellent) called NIKI... with that you can reach Vienna which I believe to be a MUST SEE of Europe... I would also say Prague (Praha) but that might be asking too much... lol

I bookmarked you to make sure I can see as much of your blog as I can.
